4- Crown Quest 2005
A "friendly " triathlon of biking, running and paddling for novice, intermediate and experienced people in Atlin's backyard.
August 27 - 28, 2005

Registration:
Mail entries to: 4 Crown Quest, Box 427, Atlin B.C.
Make cheques payable to Atlin Ski Club.
Deadline: August 19, 2005 to qualify for entry fee of $ 45.
All registrations must arrive in Atlin no later than August 19th!
Entry fee after August 20 is $55 if event is not full.
If younger than 17 years, the participant must be accompanied by a parent.
The fee includes the evening salmon-BBQ at Cracker Creek Camp.
You bring your own breakfast.
The fee for the closing banquet dinner is $15.

Schedule of Programs:

Saturday August 27: Start at 11 am. at the Atlin Inn. Prior to the start there will be a 20 minute meeting to share information you must have before you bike, run and paddle the route.
Prior to this meeting you must have dropped off your personal camping gear, kayak or canoe at the Surprise Lake boat landing (marked "BL" on the map).
You bike up the Surprise Lake Road to the Surprise Lake boat landing ( 20 km. on a gravel road with about 250m of ascent). Here you leave your bike in a secure area and boat 20 km. along the Surprise Lake shore to the Cracker Creek Campsite. Here you will find your camping gear, transported here by the organizers.
Sunday August 28: Starting at 8:30 am you run back to the Surprise Lake landing site along old gravel mining roads to pick up your bike again and coast back down to the finish line in front of the Atlin Inn, where everyone should be finished by about 12 -3 pm. Your boat will be transported back to this Surprise Lake landing site for you to be picked up after you finish the event.
The Closing banquet will be held at 4:00 pm. on the historic M.V. Tarahne.

We supply and prepare:

+++a map of the 80km. route with checkpoints and the campsite indicated. Bib and maps to be picked up at the start at the Atlin Inn one hour before the start.
+++Distance markers at every 5 km. on the running route.
+++Five aid stations with water, sports drinks and a person with a First Aid Field Kit.
+++An overnight camp area with many sheltered campsites to set up your own tent; also a communal wall tent, a big covered cooking area in case of rain and firewood for an open campfire with grill, a person with a First Aid a Field Kit, and toilets.
+++Shuttle service for each participant's camping gear, kayak or canoe to the overnight campsite. Please limit your campgear - but do bring your own tent, groundsheet, extra clothing, camp stove with fuel, food cutlery and plates, bowls, matches and flashlight in a single bag. And a whistle for the running section.
+++On arrival at Cracker Creek you will be greeted with hot and cold water, sports drink, tea or coffee, cocoa or a cup of soup, followed later by the Salmon BBQ.
+++ Motorboats to accompany kayaks and canoes on the 20 km. paddling section.

The 4-Crown Quest is all about participation and fun. Bring your spirit, all the energy you can dig up and your camera, as the landscape is awe-inspiring.

Bring the whole family! For parents with children, Atlin Quests can offer accomodation for 16 people at the Atlin Art Centre, provided at least one parents participates in the event. If both parents participate a care person must be provided to stay with the children.
The Atlin Art Centre is a wonderful playground for children. Painting studio, a pond with a canoe and three hiking trails which start from the Centre. There are selfcontained living units with all utilities, telephone etc.
During the 4 Crown Quest, the reduced fee for one night is $20 per person. You can stay for 2 nights. Register early. For information call toll free: 1-800-651-8882.

Participants must bring: Life jacket and, for the running section, basic first aid kit, trial food & water bottle, sun cream, mosquito repellant, bear spray and a whistle. The running section reaches an altitude of 1400m. Bring a wind jacket & pants in case of cool weather. Bib and map pick up starts 1 hour before the starting time at the Atlin Inn.

Volunteers! If you cannot participate, please consider volunteering. If you volunteer, we can offer you free accomodation at the Atlin Art Centre plus half the gas costs for your trip to Atlin plus a free mealticket to the Awards dinner. One day event:
Starting time Sunday 8 am at the Atlin Inn starting line. Boats must have been dropped off at the Surprise Lake landing site prior to the start or on Saturday night.
The boats from both the one day and the two day participants will be back at the Surprise Lake landing site no later than Sunday 3:30 pm for pick up by participants.
