Exciting!!
New After Race Dinner:
This year's After Race Dinner will be presented by aspiring chefs who are
participating in Atlin's first chef school, presented by our Northern Lights
College.
We
hope the dinner will be as satisfying as last year's one. We can't say what
the menu will be but there will be main courses for both carnivores and vegetarians.
We are setting $20 for the price of the dinner as that is the figure that
the administrator of the chef's school thought they would need to present
a delectable feast. The class runs from April through September so by August
there could be a great variety of food that might be presented. As last year,
we will have cloth linens, glass goblets, flowers, stainless utensils, real
plates -- a meal to satisfy the mind as well as the body. More details will
come later.
The fee for the closing banquet dinner is, as mentioned, $20.
All non-racers are also welcome. Dress code: come as you are.
Please pay for your after-race dinner when registering.
Schedule of Programs:
(Distances quoted are approximate)
Saturday August 18: Start at 11 am. at the Atlin Inn. Prior to the start there will be a 20 minute meeting to share information you must have before you bike, run and paddle the route.
Prior to this meeting you must have dropped off your personal camping gear, kayak or canoe at the Surprise Lake boat landing (marked "BL" on the map).
You bike up the Surprise Lake Road to the Surprise Lake boat landing ( 20 km. on a gravel road with about 250m of ascent. The organizers are exploring the possibility of using more backcountry trails in order to avoid the dusty road.). You leave your bike in a secure area at the Boat Landing and boat 20 km. along the Surprise Lake shore to the Cracker Creek Campsite. Here you will find your camping gear, transported there by the organizers.
Sunday August 20: Starting at 8:30 am you run back
to the Surprise Lake landing site along old gravel mining roads to pick up
your bike again and coast back down to the finish line in front of the Atlin
Inn, where everyone should be finished by about 12 -3 pm. Your boat will be
transported back to this Surprise Lake landing site for you to be picked up
after you finish the event.
The Closing banquet will be held at 4:00 pm. in a still to be determined locality.
One
day event:
Starting
time Sunday 8 am at the Atlin Inn starting line. Boats must have been dropped
off at the Surprise Lake landing site prior to the start or on Saturday night.
The boats from both the one day and the two day participants will be back
at the Surprise Lake landing site no later than Sunday 3:30 pm for pick up
by participants.
We supply and prepare:
